Piedmont Community College’s Film and Video Production Technology (FVPT) program provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to find employment in the film and video industry. It is one of only two full feature film training programs located on the East Coast of the United States and offers outstanding instruction at a very affordable price. The program prepares its students to work on feature films, television commercials, music videos, documentary films, Internet multimedia and other audio-visual media forms. About the program
The Film and Video program uses a class project paradigm as the structure for training. Students shoot their projects on HD digital video or 16 mm film with completed running times of 5 to 120 minutes. Students produce one large or several small class projects each semester. Working professional filmmakers serving as guest artists along with PCC’s adjunct instructors serve as mentors on productions. PCC’s full-time Film and Video staff have years of extensive experience on professional film and video productions, giving students the advantage of working with film industry professionals.

Award-winning program
The FVPT program has distinguished itself by winning awards and other recognition for many of the class projects produced. Students can graduate with a portfolio of award-winning, professional projects that showcase their skills as film and video professionals.

State-of-the-industry equipment
PCC’s Film & Video program also provides students the opportunity to learn using state-of-the-industry film and video equipment. The program’s equipment package is a complete professional independent feature film production package including: a five-ton grip truck, lights ranging in size from 200 watts to 12,000 watts, a movie-quiet 500 AMP generator and two camera dollies. The College owns more than 20 HD and DV video cameras and three film cameras, including a complete professional Arri SR II 16 mm film camera package. Students also have the use of two complete digital tapeless audio capture packages. PCC’s audio lab is set up for sound design, Foley and ADR, using ProTools software and hardware. The Digital Editing lab includes 21 workstations with Final Cut Studio software installed.
